Editing and Proofreading Services
The Australian Writers’ Centre offers editing and proofreading services for most types of documents including fiction, non-fiction and business writing.
Whether your project is an important letter, an annual report or a 90,000-word story full of imagination, you want your writing to appear professional, eloquent and error-free.
So it’s worth getting a professional to edit or proofread your writing at the final stage.
But what’s the difference between copy-editing and proofreading?
We offer two services that can help you:
Proofreading is the final stage for any writing process. This is where spelling, grammar and punctuation errors are fixed.
This is useful for all writing projects to catch the mistakes you miss when you’ve become too close to the project.
2. Copy-editing (often referred to as line-editing)
Copy-editing includes all the elements of proofreading (above). Any errors in punctuation, grammar and spelling are corrected.
However, you'll also receive suggested improvements on your sentence structure and style. This is done to ensure your writing is consistent and compelling.
Why use a professional editor/proofreader?
It’s worthwhile to get someone else to copy-edit or proofread your writing. Chances are that you’re too close to the document so it’s very easy for you to miss a spelling mistake or typo.
However, your readers will notice!
We understand the golden rules of writing and can copy-edit or proofread your document to make sure it’s clear and error-free. Clunky sentences and confusing paragraphs can ruin your work. So make sure you give your writing the final polish it deserves.
It’s still your project.
When you receive your edited document, it’s entirely up to you to accept or reject the proposed editing or proofreading improvements. We will never request recognition for our role, or claim copyright.
