Where can you publish travel articles? How do publications differ in what they look for? There are many ways to write about a destination, and you’ll learn how to structure your stories to suit your readers and use the right ‘lingo’ with editors.
How to get your hook and story angles right
To be a well-oiled machine, it’s important to get the nuts and bolts right. You’ll explore the balance between your trip and your article – including when to do your research and the reality of how long it can take to get published. You’ll also start thinking about destinations in terms of hooks and angles and other aspects such as photography.
The best way to travel as a savvy writer
There are FOUR main ways in which travel writers will organise their trips. We’ll discuss the pros and cons of all of these methods – from solo travel, to groups, as well as step-by-step guides to arranging trips that are funded by resorts, tourism bodies or airlines!
Techniques on making your travel writing shine
The biggest mistake is in thinking a more exotic location will mean a better story. You’ll learn how to make even articles about your local neighbourhood compelling with some simple tools and techniques to follow. You’ll also receive a vital checklist of items to ensure you’ve nailed everything before sending your story to an editor.

The ultimate goal of your trip is to sell your story. This module will teach you about approaching editors, tips on maximising your success and the actual process of getting paid. You’ll also learn how to turn one trip into multiple stories, expanding your earning potential overnight!

It's a big world out there!

No, wait. It’s New York in autumn. The colours of the trees in Central Park are ridiculous and you’re clip-clopping your way beneath a 360 degree cityscape, scribbling notes while the horse carriage driver chats and you munch on a pretzel.
Scratch that. Outback with a backpack. The red earth, friendly locals, camel races and 101 ways to get lost while finding yourself at the same time. The only thing more prolific than the flies are the adjectives to describe what will eventually be an epic story...
The variety. The freedom. The WORLD. That’s certainly the DREAM of being a travel writer – and one of the reasons why it constantly pops up in lists of “dream jobs”. Travel writing allows you to generate an income from sharing your experiences near or far.
