Best Australian Blog 2011 overall winner
The Best Australian Blogs 2011 Competition, run by the Sydney Writers' Centre, has proven that the Australian blogging community is insightful, engaged and very active.
With so many quality blogs entered, the judges had a difficult job. However, we are pleased to announce the winners of the competition.
The overall winner was the blog that scored the highest score of any of the category winner blogs, as marked by the whole judging panel.
The 2011 winner of the Best Australian Blogs competition is Queensland blogger Nikki Parkinson for her blog Styling You.
Styling You was a stand out as a regularly updated blog rich in good writing, quality multimedia content and social media engagement. Not only is the blog visually attractive and an engaging read, Nikki also has a strong community of supporters.
2011 category winners
Congratulations to all the winners in the Best Australian Blogs 2012 Competition.
Styling You – Nikki Parkinson
Business category judge Joel Norton, chief strategy officer of Boost Marketing, on Styling You:
"Nikki's blog has a great variety of content combining images, copy and video to entertain and engage readers. It has a high level of interaction and comments from readers and excellent integration with social media. YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter were all clearly visible and easy for readers to connect with."
News with Nipples – Kim Powell
Commentary category judge Valerie Khoo, founder and national director of the Australian Writers' Centre, on News with Nipples:
"Kim's writing is insightful, informed and topical. She also has an acerbic wit and is not afraid to criticise the media in Australia."
Random Ramblings of a SAHM – Lori Dwyer
Personal/Lifestyle category judge Brenda Gaddi, founder of the Australian Bloggers Conference, on Random Ramblings of a Stay at Home Mum:
"I chose Random Ramblings of a Stay at Home Mum as the overall winner for this category for the simple reason that her writing is brilliant. It's painfully raw and brutally honest. Lori is fearless in her writing. She's been through hell and back and her writing is her truth. And I respect that a lot."
Bothersome Words – Abigail Nathan
Words category judge Angela Meyer, LiteraryMinded blogger, on Bothersome Words:
"Abigail blogs not only as an editor but as a reader. Her posts are informative, passionate and insightful, and never didactic. They are tightly written, with their own little quirks, like entertaining footnotes. She has a welcoming and generous tone and plenty of knowledge to impart. There is both variety and consistency, and the blog should be enjoyed widely by editors, writers and the general reader."
People's Choice Award
Bike Exif – Chris Hunter
The most popular blog is Chris Hunter's Bike EXIF, which received 2,583 votes. This was at least a 1000 more votes then any other blog. A total of 13,355 people voted in the People's Choice Awards.
Congratulations to all the finalists in the Best Australian Blogs 2011 Competition.
