What’s YOUR inspiration?

Here at the Australian Writers' Centre, we often teach the importance of harnessing moments of inspiration to spark your storytelling. These are a valuable and renewable resource – not only powering your writing, but also your own life’s story.

Because just like a novel, sometimes your life needs moments of inspiration to keep the protagonist (you!) moving forward. One great way to achieve this is by choosing a key ‘mantra’ to live by and inform your actions. It might simply be a single word that will inspire you. Or perhaps a phrase, statement or favourite quote. Even a particular song lyric!

The idea is for it to have personal meaning for YOU – a word or set of words that will give you direction and provide you with your very own ‘spark’. Some people choose a different word to motivate them each year; others pick a favourite quote; some even have a different inspirational ‘theme’ every single day!

Print it out. Stick it on your bathroom mirror. The fridge. The front door. Set a daily alarm on your phone to remind you of it. Harness all of its power and bring your inspiration to life.

By defining your personal mantra and choosing something guaranteed to motivate and inspire YOU, you take back control and move YOUR story forward.

So. tell us – what’s YOUR inspirational word, mantra or quote? We'd love to know! Whether it’s something you’ve lived with for a while or just thought up today, shout it to the world by clicking BELOW. We’ll share some of them next week on our blog.

Submit your answer by completing the form below before midday Monday 28 March 2022 (Sydney/Melbourne time).
