Win $5000 in the 2018 ELLE magazine short story competition

The ELLE writing competition is back!

This is your chance to write a short story, get published AND win $5000.

From the ELLE Website:

“For this year's ELLE Writing Competition, in association with Hachette Australia, we're looking for modern, contemporary voices telling stories that are engaging and subversive. We want: fresh, modern, topical tales that may or may not riff on pop culture. Humour is encouraged but not essential. We don't want: stories that make us sad. The world is dark enough.

“While there's no specific theme, we want unpublished stories that capture the mood of the moment. Write a 4,000 word short story on the topic of your choice. The deadline for entries is October 26, so if you've got a tale to tell, what are you waiting for?

“The winning fiction will be published in the January/February issue of ELLE, and the author awarded a $5,000 prize. Two runners-up will receive a prize pack of recent releases from Hachette Australia worth $200.”

The Judges for the 2018 competition are:

  • Justine Cullen, editor-in-chief of ELLE Australia
  • Hannah Richell, author, The Peacock Summer
  • Vanessa Radnidge, publisher at Hachette Australia

Entries close 26 October 2018, giving you plenty of time to perfect your craft with our Short Story Essentials online course.

The best part is that the course is self-paced so you can do it in your own time. And you get feedback on your own short story from an experienced fiction editor. So that will maximise your chances of submitting the BEST version of your story into the competition.

You can find out more about how to enter via the ELLE website.

Good luck to you all.
