This course is ideal for:
Content writers, marketers and communications professionals
Copywriters who want to future-proof their skills
Business owners who write their own blogs, emails or website content
Anyone who wants to understand how SEO and AI now work together
The world of search has changed forever. Google is no longer the only place people go for answers. These days, they’re also asking ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Reddit and beyond. And when people do use Google, the top result is increasingly an AI-generated overview – not a list of blue links. If you create content for work or business, you need to know how to write for this new ecosystem.
And here’s what this course is really about. It’s not about using AI to churn out more SEO content. Instead, you’ll learn how to structure and signal your writing so AI systems actually choose your pages when they answer people’s questions — in Google’s AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and whatever comes next.
This skill is sometimes called Answer Engine Optimisation (AEO), AI Optimisation (AIO) or Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO), and it’s fast becoming the difference between being discoverable and disappearing from view.
If you’re still relying on traditional SEO tactics, you’re already falling behind. To stay relevant – whether you’re a content writer, marketer, freelancer or business owner – you need to know how to write for both humans and the growing network of AI-powered tools that now deliver answers.

“I’m an SEO beginner but the course information made sense and covered everything I needed. It opened my mind to the usefulness of AI and helped me to understand very clearly what to focus on to improve my company’s standing with AI; tips like the apps or programs available to support writing for SEO and AI. I no longer feel lost or hopelessly out of date.”

“I was fortunate enough to attend a workshop recently run by Grant Doyle through the Australian Writers’ Centre. Over the course of a few hours, he took us through the comparatively dizzying speed at which AI has risen and continues to grow. He showed us how to integrate AI into our workflows. He delved deep into the art of the prompt and highlighted the challenges of ethics and governance in AI.
“Grant’s ‘Intelligent Business Writing with AI’ course is rich in knowledge and resources for you to take away and implement in your writing, so I highly recommend it.”
Fiona Crowson, Head of Content, PreviousNext
The old SEO playbook was about pleasing Google with keywords and meta tags. That’s no longer enough. Today, when someone types a question into Google, ChatGPT or Perplexity, an AI decides which content to show them – and which to ignore. If your content isn’t written with that in mind, it simply won’t get seen.
If your content isn’t structured for this new landscape, it risks becoming invisible. Once you understand how to write for humans and these rapidly evolving AI systems, you can keep your content visible and valuable, even as search keeps changing.
“Great course for beginners to SEO, as well as those with more experience.”

Q: Is this course about using AI to write my SEO content for me?
A: While that’s part of it, that’s not the main focus. This course is mainly about how to write so AI actually finds, cites and surfaces your content in Google’s AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and similar platforms. That’s what people mean when they talk about Answer Engine Optimisation (AEO), AI Optimisation (AIO) or Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO). We do briefly cover using AI tools as a writing assistant – but it’s a small part of a much bigger picture.
Q: Do I need any prior SEO experience?
A:No – we’ll cover the fundamentals of SEO writing before moving into more AI-specific strategies. You’ll get value whether you’re completely new to SEO or have some experience and want to update your skills.
Q: Do I need to be familiar with AI tools already?
A: Not at all. We’ll introduce you to free and paid AI tools, explain how to use them ethically, and guide you through practical exercises.
Q: What software do I need?
A: None because everything is browser-based. You’ll need to register with at least one AI provider (we’ll send you instructions after you book). Free versions of ChatGPT 5 (recommended), Claude, Gemini, or Perplexity will work – though premium versions may give better results.
Q: Will technical and analytical elements be covered?
A: Briefly. SEO has several layers. We focus almost exclusively on the content writing/editorial aspect. There are crucial and complementary elements that we will reference and illustrate, but will not be explored in detail. These include schema markup, .txt files for crawlability, plus analytical dashboards that monitor and measure.
