Inaugural Shoalhaven Readers’ & Writers’ Festival coming in August

NSW South Coast’s Shoalhaven region, about two hours south of Sydney, is popular all year round with holidaymakers and anyone wanting to escape to the beach, bush and beautiful scenery. But now it’s also home to Australia’s newest literary festival – the Shoalhaven Readers’ & Writers’ Festival, set to take place in Nowra on Saturday 4 August 2018.

This year’s festival will feature a full-day program of sessions, panels and workshops for adults at the Nowra School of Arts and Shoalhaven Regional Gallery, as well as a free children’s program at the Shoalhaven City Library (Nowra).

Here at the Australian Writers’ Centre, we’re especially excited because presenter and course creator Allison Tait (also one half of our podcasting duo with Valerie Khoo) will be part of the line up. A resident of the Shoalhaven region herself, there was no way she was going to pass up such an opportunity! And along with other local creative folk and talented guests, she’s thrilled to be part of this vibrant new festival.

The festival line up features Frank Moorhouse, Jackie French, Melina Marchetta, Eleanor Limprecht, Alan Baxter, Catherine McKinnon, Ron Pretty, Dianne Blacklock, Tim Harris and of course, Allison Tait. Activities will include everything from writing workshops and author panels, to book signings and a Children’s Festival.

It’s a jam-packed day for locals or near-locals – and for the further afield, just quietly, a perfect excuse for a weekend away… For a full program and other details, you can head to the official website.
