What’s it like to learn with AWC?

Bernadette was awesome. She answered messages and was very encouraging. It was helpful when she recommended books to read.

Meaty content. Good templates. Ability to download notes. I thought the course was comprehensive and am happy with everything.

It has given me the confidence to continue and I realise if I follow the formulas I can create great content. My initial feelings of overwhelm and inexperience were unfounded. If I keep learning, I can progress quickly.

Throughout the entire course, Nat's feedback has been incredible. I think it's an art to be able to take people's vulnerability in sharing their life experiences, and their method of exposing how that made them feel, and honour it - while still being able to critique the work, without critiquing the person or the situation. Her feedback made me a better writer overall, and her positivity inspired me to write far more than I intended to.

Valerie's method of explaining ideas and her pace of teaching creates a wonderful energy leading into each writing task. I loved the tasks because they offered a true learning experience (not a feeling of right or wrong) and the feedback made that learning possible. Being able to hear the feedback on everyone's work was enlightening and helpful. Given the personal nature of this course, I was amazed by the vulnerability some students showed in order to tell their story. Overall, it was a beautiful gift, and I think everyone should learn to write, or speak about their life experiences as they are what makes us all unique.

I knew writing was cathartic, but writing with confidence is even more healing. Knowing I am now writing with a purpose is more inspiring than I imagined.

I've done many courses with AWC and I think they are very powerful and designed in a very clear and concise manner. The staff are also so helpful. After graduating from the Real Estate Copywriting course, I was able to start my own business in this field and I have found all the courses to be helpful in a myriad of ways.

Petronella provided light and positive feedback throughout the modules. Her suggestions were delivered in a constructive supportive way.

My favourite point is that the course followed a clear structure, with supporting handouts. From start to finish. Now the practice.

I found this course extremely educational. There was a lot of information and advice that I will take to the project I am currently in the process of writing and apply what I have learnt. It brought up a lot of questions for me and helped me see the things that I can improve in my writing.

It was great to be able to take it at my own pace and squeeze it into the spare moments of daily life; around all the other boring obligations we have to tick off the to do list, LOL. It is also great that I have access for a full 12 months. I will be able to go back to it for a refresh.

Every section of the course had great content and I learnt something applicable to what I want to achieve throughout the entire course.

If you are considering doing any courses to improve your writing, I thoroughly recommend the Australian Writers' Centre. The information is presented in an easy to digest manner and there is an amazing supportive community available to you.

This is a really great course to understand what publishers are expecting and how to pitch.

I love to write and while I have ambitions to write another book, now is not the right time. Instead, I thought of combining my loves of travel and writing and immediately sought out this course.

It was easy to follow and comprehensive. It's also very encouraging and motivating.

I'm immediately inspired to begin pitching travel stories and I feel a spark and interest in something that I haven't felt in some time. My mum has Alzheimers and it's been a tough year. This feels like an opportunity just for me, regardless of what is going on.

Travel writing can be a part of my natural travel choices, I just need to be creative.

The videos made the course easy to follow and complete, rather than a lot of reading.

I now understand how to structure a news article / media release in a way that makes sense and is of interest to the recipient.

If you've never written a media release and have something to promote or bring the media's attention to, do this course.

My manuscript is ready to be shopped around. This course seemed like the best way to get a step-by-step guide to prepping my submissions with experts experienced in the local market.

I have recommended the course already. Spoke highly of the presentation and abundant resources.

This course was fantastic and Nat was exceptional. She provided incredible feedback delivered with sensitivity and genuinely aimed at helping us improve as writers.

I had the idea to write a picture book for 5 years and thought I'd finally learn how to do it!

I really liked Cathie. She was very encouraging in her feedback and I appreciated how detailed it was. I also appreciated that she was very patient.

I enjoyed the assignments and that there were lots of opportunities to actually write the short stories. It was really well done, and I definitely know 1000% more than I did before about writing picture books.

It was really helpful in setting the foundations on how to write a picture book. I liked that I could do 20-30 minutes every day and feel accomplished, it wasn't a whole heap thrown at once, and you're not thrown into the deep end.

I feel like I can actually start writing my children's book!

I wanted a place to start, after years of not writing. This course was motivational.

I realised that after all my false starts, I can actually do this.

I'd say that the Australian Writers' Centre has a course for almost anyone who wants to start writing, and I wouldn't look anywhere else.

Nat was great! Very constructive and positive in her feedback, and always offered suggestions of things to try out to improve our writing. Conversational and self-disclosing at times made us feel we were all part of one big family.

I most enjoyed listening to the modules and getting the gist of each week's writing task, along with the satisfaction of submitting something at the end of each week. Experiencing the odd moment when a line or phrase just flowed during the writing task was pretty special too!

It's inspired me to write a memoir about my life which is providing a whole new focus for this time in my life (I'm 76).

If you want to learn the craft of writing in a short course, this course is excellent.

I wanted to learn some of the intricacies of writing. I want to tell my story. Regardless of whether it would ever be published, I felt it would help me to make sense of my crazy life. Initially, I was concerned about the expense, but the price is actually very reasonable. And in hindsight, so worth it! I wondered about the online lessons but the tutorials and honest feedback have been amazing.

Valerie's lesson package is very engaging. I enjoyed the process of attempting to embed the techniques and strategies into my writing.

Every course I have completed with AWC has been a revelation. I am 78 years old, a retired administrator with approx 60 years of experience and known in all my workplaces as the 'expert' on writing and knowledge of grammar, punctuation and spelling. You'd be surprised at the number of senior male managers I worked for who couldn't spell and relied on me to correct their correspondence. Despite this, I found that writing corporate speak and creative writing are very different. My courses at AWC are filling the gaps between these two worlds.

Every tutor I have had has been professional, helpful, friendly and encouraging. All the feedback from all of them has been clear, correct and very useful. I have changed my work in progress accordingly and I can see the improvements.

Like many retirees will tell you, I am so busy that I now wonder how I had time to work. Being able to access a classroom without having to leave home and still get the same learning experience is absolutely the best incentive for me to keep learning.
