I'd say that it was like injecting a university creative writing course straight in to the vein.

This is the second time I've had Cathie as my tutor and I was very happy to have her guiding me again. She is excellent.

It has improved my writing significantly and connected my with a community of likeminded writers. It has also given me a realistic path forward to achieving my goal of getting published.

I am about to start querying my debut novel. I signed up for this course as I wanted to ensure my cover letter was meeting industry standards, and I was eager to learn more about the industry as a whole.

I really did enjoy this course and I learned so much. Above and beyond what I thought I would. Overall, I feel like I have a greater understanding of the publishing industry. I feel like this AWC course has equipped me with the tools I will need to pitch with confidence.

I love the AWC courses because the content is carefully considered and clearly communicated. When I complete an AWC course I feel confident in the knowledge I have gained, and I feel as if I am building my understanding of the industry and craft of writing.

The videos with Bernadette are very enjoyable and impeccable in their content, pace and timing. The handouts/notes and downloadability of the videos are an extremely helpful bonus!

Mark has proven very supportive and clear and helpful in his feedback. Having the video feedback is very helpful especially getting to hear others work from the course made it interesting and interactive on the learning journey.

I really looked forward to the weekly video content to learn. Then working on assignments was most intriguing and rewarding. I feel so proud I have been able to show up each week studying at a pace that has been enriching and enlightening!

I feel in touch with my mind and expression and how I can/and have been able to express myself. I have learnt a whole new world in writing; especially with the SEO and AI content as I really haven't explored it as yet.

Cathie's feedback has been tremendously helpful. I've picked up great editing skills from her markups of my document. Sometimes her feedback was hard to understand but Cathie was open to questions and clarifications, which was great.

I enjoyed working on my novel and improving it after each round of feedback. The course being completely online contributed to this greatly.

I've become aware of my favourite filler words. My editing skills have improved. And, as a byproduct, it has influenced my poetry writing skills.

Interpretation belongs to the reader. This is a much more accurate statement than "show, don't tell" and it helped me change the way I approach difficult topics in writing.

It's all stuff and no fluff. The selling point of this course is that there's no faffing about. It's packed with helpful info and accessible.

I love Pamela's enthusiasm.

I feel more confident about showing my settings through the eyes of my protagonist.

I'm now a full time traveller, dividing my time between the northern and southern hemispheres and living in a campervan / motorhome in each one. I'd been writing travel journals for three years but wasn't very satisfied and it was only me reading them. It was a logical next step to try my hand at travel writing and to hopefully start getting paid for my efforts.

Each unit was carefully devised and clearly presented, making them very accessible. I like the bite-size aspect to it, enabling me to come and go whenever I was free. Valerie's feedback on my drafts was absolutely invaluable! As a result, I now have two articles published in two separate magazines in the UK, with three more commissioned. Thank you so much.

I'm now a published writer! And the opportunities to write more articles for the editors I'm published with are flowing in.

Just go ahead and do it. You'll learn so much and develop the confidence to write and pitch. You'll never regret it!

I have always loved crime thrillers and after having a novel published in the biography genre earlier this year, I had the confidence to investigate this new genre. I had ideas in my head and waned some direction before I started writing

I thoroughly enjoyed this course. I would definitely recommend it. Everyone was very supportive.

Louisa was really good. Highly enthusiastic and encouraging.

It has encouraged me to start preparing to write my novel and given me structure on where to start.

You will learn so much and in a supported environment.

I had the best time in this course. It gave me the opportunity to do as much or as little as I chose knowing that the time put into each module would only benefit me. Which it did!

Pamela Freeman was simply awesome. She was the right amount of gregarious backed by an overwhelming knowledge of all things to do with the industry. Pamela provided personal examples to her points along with great pedagogy backed by an extensive general knowledge. She was always inclusive and encouraging and that didn't stop her giving quality feedback that was designed only to assist us all in becoming skilled writers. I would/will definitely take any course that Pamela presents.

We had the best fun whilst learning and sharing ideas whilst all the time being expertly led by Pamela.

I feel encouraged to continue the path of writer. I had thought about it on and off for years. I feel I now have a legitimate new hobby that I hope to progress into something more substantial. I'm on the way!

You have so many good stories in you. I hear them. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by taking a risk and enrolling in this course. I think you will be surprised and encouraged by realising that you can learn and hone so many skills needed for great writing. Do it!

I wasn't sure if I was enrolling in the course too early as I'm not ready to submit a manuscript yet. I'm glad I did the course early though, as it has given me a better understanding of the industry and will help me plan my writing goals.

It sets out the business of publishing in a practical and understandable way.

I feel like I have a much better understanding of the publishing process, including some of the potential pitfalls for debut authors.

AWC courses are very practical, well-structured and informative.

The course exceeded my expectations. An enormous amount of detailed advice.

I've now realised how much there is to creating a fantasy world.

This was an amazing course and has given me so much to help get my writing into the world and hopefully become a published writer. The feedback from Nat was awesome and helped me develop my writing skills much further than I could have hoped on my own. Getting to talk with the other students was also really helpful. :)

Nat was amazing, her feedback was exactly what I was hoping for. It was constructive and helped me understand where I can improve with my writing.

I enjoyed the content. It was really helpful and gave me many ideas as to where to go next with my writing. I was stuck with my writing and the content that was covered helped me to get unstuck and know where to go next.

One of the best courses I've ever done in my life (not that I've been around long :P).

It has helped me to fully understand how to flesh out my characters. A lot of the ideas I've had for stories were ones about the setting and the plot. This meant that I would create very surface level characters so that anything I wrote with those characters felt lacklustre. The content that covered how structure works was also really helpful and has given me great direction on how to lay out my stories going forward.

I would say that it is the perfect course if you're wondering about getting into creative writing. It will give you a great base and understanding of the basics so that you can turn your ideas into actual physical things that you can give to the world or wherever you wish to put your work.

The course was highly organised. I loved the modules unlocking weekly so you could take it all in. The weekly assignments were great to keep me accountable and the feedback that Nat gave was absolutely the highlight - it was so valuable to build both capability and confidence. In the final weeks the students were also commenting and I so appreciated the time they had taken to do that as I know we are all very busy in our everyday life.

Nat was exceptional - I found her motivating, positive but not afraid to critique and be direct. She is absolutely the type of tutor I didn't know I needed. She was able to explain where we were going wrong, put language to the issues and give little encouragement that it is the minor tweaks that would make the difference; we didn't have to throw the whole thing out.

I am writing again after 20 years of not. I am thinking about writing - about plots and stories in my free time and walking the dog. I am noticing things in the world that are enhancing my appreciation of my surroundings as I think how I would describe a scene - what I can notice to get the detail.

Very importantly - Nat taught me the importance of physics in a story and how a character moves through a scene and transitions. HUGE light bulb moment for me.

Thoroughly enjoyable course and I hope that my group and I will continue to workshop on the course chat that we are using for the coming months.

I thought Kate was excellent - I loved the structure and content of the course and feel as though I learnt a lot in a short space of time. The intertextuality elements of painting, poetry and fiction added depth to my understandings. I also loved that she was able to strip back the core elements of attraction and value for each genre, thereby undermining stereotypes and literary snobbery.

I thought I would be more interested in the first half of the course - where I plan to write - but found myself equally absorbed in the fantasy and mystic realism modules.

It has given me permission to write and a basis to write from.

This course provides an introduction and deep dive into elements of the five genres. It also has a number of key lessons and tips and tricks for fiction writing that are both practical, enabling and empowering. Highly recommend.

I liked the fact that it specifically focussed on the writing I am currently doing. I have already included several elements from the course into my writing.

The tutor was very knowledgeable, very focussed, and very supportive.

I'm now looking at how to further build suspense and to establish settings for the action, without detracting from the action.

I really appreciated the downloadable audio - a massive bonus meaning that my learning opportunities were super flexible and I could listen to the audio whilst out on a walk as opposed to being chained to the laptop! I loved the opportunity to ask the tutor questions (although it's only towards the end of the course I felt informed enough to do that) and I really liked seeing other students' work, too. Overall, I've massively enjoyed it and found it hugely helpful in helping me transform and target my writing more for publication.

I really appreciated all of Cathie's feedback; it was to the point and useful but also kind and encouraging.

I enjoyed the challenge of having to turn in multiple manuscripts over the weeks, and really having to try to apply all the advice learned so far. Module 4 was packed with things especially so I listened to that a good few times over!

As a budding writer-illustrator, I also really appreciated the illustration modules.

As someone with severe ADHD, I can often struggle to complete things, especially if they are something I really, really want to do for myself. The length and style of this course however worked perfectly for me; I now have a few first drafts of PB manuscripts that are also much more targeted than they would have been before I took the course. This in turn, has given me more self-confidence around my writing.

I found the course extremely useful in that it's comprehensive, structured and the tutor is excellent, and it's also flexible enough to fit around your everyday life. Highly recommended.

I was attracted to this course after receiving professional feedback around needing to go deeper re. POV with my characters.

It helped me understand how non-negotiably important deep POV is for contemporary fiction, and how to do it. Worthwhile.

I found the seminar to be a good course as a beginner, with some new information I hadn't come across or thought of before.

It helped me to realise that I had unintentionally used some cliches and pitfalls and that I needed to adjust my openings.

I loved the idea of learning about and from different genres. I have attended one of Kate's courses before and found her a very inspiring teacher, so that was also an attraction.

I loved Kate's deconstruction of two different novelists for each genre - introduced me to some new books I now want to read. I also enjoyed the lessons from each genre. Even if I don't intend to write in a specific genre (for example, fantasy), I've still learned some useful lessons that can be applied to other genres. I also enjoy Kate's easy teaching style and the beautiful artworks that she chooses to illustrate her slides. I always learn something beyond the course (eg beyond learning about genres, I've also been introduced to new artists and art).

I have picked up lots of useful lessons to use in my own writing.

Definitely enrol and do it! You will learn something and it will help your writing.
