I thought Jennifer was brilliant. Her critique was delivered in an eloquent fashion and always considered. I also loved how she delivered it all with a smile, with some helpful angles to further assist the students. Thanks, Jennifer!

I enjoyed having someone read my writing who doesn't have an emotional attachment to me - also the course content was helpful, helped me gain perspective and allowed me to think about maturing my writing techniques.

Take a chance with it - it might help you open your mind and give you confidence to put your wonderful stories to paper.

The course provided a structure to my writing over the five weeks and got me actually writing. I've done a couple of writing courses before which were fine, but the student's role was passive and not as interactive as the AWC course.

Angela was very positive and provided constructive feedback in the last module, which was very helpful.

I feel a lot more confident about the story I want to write and that, for now, it's OK to just get on and start writing it as a lot can be sorted out as part of the drafting process later on. I also learnt that we all write differently and due to our life experiences can bring our own style and flavour to what we write.

Cathie was clear with her tailored feedback and offered structured advice on how to improve my writing. She posted information on technical aspects of writing along with recommended texts covering all manner of topics. She encouraged me to dig deeper.

I found the workshopping very enjoyable. Reading others' work and providing feedback is an important part of the course.

That I have managed to complete a first draft of my novel is amazing and I know I couldn't have done it without the support I received from Cathie or the other students in the group.

Go for it! If you have ever thought you wanted to write, this is the place to be.

Suzanne's tutorials were easy to follow and the feedback was excellent. It was exciting to submit a new story each week. I enjoyed the homework and feedback.

I really feel confident to submit my stories. Maybe I will get them rejected but to have the confidence to actually submit is quite exciting.

It's more important to gain knowledge on the mechanics of a story and the process of submitting for publication than you think. The Australian Writers' Centre teaches you all that and more.

The course was great. It has inspired me to write, and given me some useful tools to help me think about process and technique. At the very least, it has made me more knowledgeable for analysing my monthly book club book :)

I was always so keen to read Pamela's feedback and appreciated her quick turnaround. I also appreciated her very supportive and constructive comments. Her experience and knowledge are amazing and we were so fortunate to have her as our tutor - inspirational!

I enrolled with a friend and most weeks we had a zoom catch up to discuss what we were learning, creative ideas that were developing, and our progress on the course. We also read each other's work which was very helpful.

It has 'forced'/encouraged/committed' me to start writing and, in doing so, has ignited a creative part of me that has been dormant for many years. I have always loved writing but corporate writing has dulled the creativity. I'm suddenly finding many ideas for stories and have even woken up during the night and written a short story!

The course is a great introduction to the mechanics, tools and process of writing while providing the support you may need to start your journey of creative writing. The course also gives you the confidence to find your own style and writing practice while learning from others. And it gives you the prod you need to actually sit down and get writing!

I really enjoyed the online learning hub. It was a nice mix of audio and notes. I could listen to the audio and refer to the notes at the same time. It really helped me learn.

The tutor is professional, experienced and is really good at building up her students and pointing out the strengths in their writing.

I enjoyed developing my writing skills and seeing the results in my assignments. Also, looking at other students' work and being motivated and encouraged by it.

This has been the most enjoyable online course I've ever done.

It's given me an avenue to do something I really enjoy and find people who also enjoy the same thing.

I really liked the tutor's constructive criticism. She pointed out where we were doing the right things, so we could keep doing them, but also offered advice and suggestions on how to improve with specific examples. She was very encouraging and I noticed Suzanne replied within a reasonable time if someone put a question in the group chat.

I enjoyed reading other people's work and - although this was also the most terrifying part - putting my own work up for others to read.

It has given me confidence in my own ability and motivated me to do the masterclass and spend more time writing in general.

Thank you so much! I wish I'd done this a long time ago.

Angela provided generous and helpful feedback - excellent! I found the feedback and handouts very helpful.

I gained valuable tools for character development and learnt the importance of drafting from different narrators' points of view.

You will never find better value for money, time, and quality than AWC courses.

The tutor was warm, funny, highly experienced and supportive. Made becoming a copywriter seem very doable and took a lot of the fear/self-doubt out of pursuing it as a career.

I enjoyed the assignments and constructive feedback, and being able to learn from Bernadette, who made it all so accessible and easy to understand.

I felt that setting myself up as a copywriter was a real possibility (in fact I am starting up a business now!). My goal is to, within a year, be working for myself as mainly an SEO copywriter.

Copywriting is what I should be doing. I couldn't believe that at 35 I had finally discovered "what I want to be when I grow up"!

Incredibly knowledgeable tutors, accessible and easy to understand coursework; life changing!

Thank you!

The course really helped me. It clarified several ideas and how to develop them. I am planning a series - it helped me define which path to take and how to develop it.

The self-pacing is great as it makes completing the modules so easy. There is a lot of really good information. I felt involved rather than just a listener.

All the courses I have done with AWC have helped my writing enormously. Can't recommend them highly enough and they are worth the money.

Bernadette was extremely engaging, informative and authentic. I loved her personal stories that related to the topic and very conversational manner.

As an introduction, I feel it was great and we covered a lot of content (and examples) that were relevant to my industry which is creative, media and marketing.

It has brought back the joy I had in writing. Now equipped with a toolbox of formulas and insights, I am more conscious of the power of words when used in the right way.

My colleague has already enrolled upon recommendation. I mentioned it was great course that will help with her confidence in writing.

Big thank you to Bernadette for reigniting my writing passion by taking out the fear factor. There is no right or wrong way in telling a story as long as the content is relevant and authentic.

Bernadette is a wonderful presenter/tutor and provides great resources and explanations along the way. Feedback is also helpful. I came to understand that SEO is a real 'writing science' - and the tools taught really help the student to better understand this writing style/science.

I enjoyed:
1. The quality of the material and resources provided in the course.
2. Bernadette's extensive knowledge and understanding of the SEO arena.
3. The pace of the course - 5 weeks is an ideal amount of time to work through and grasp the information and then to provide time to respond to the information being taught via the assignments set by Bernadette/online presenter.

Bernadette's very useful handouts and assignment templates helped me to make better sense of the concepts being taught. More specifically, Bernadette's examples clearly demonstrated to the student what was required and how to go about getting to that assignment end point.

AWC delivers fun, interesting and engaging writing courses that are suited to any writer no matter where they may be on their writing journey: beginner or advanced.

Keep up the great content and courses, AWC!

This course gave my writing direction and focus and helped a lot with giving my characters a voice.

Excellent feedback from Cathie as well as good ideas about which books I can buy to assist me in my writing. I really appreciated Cathie's individual attention to my work.

I started the course with some random chapters; I now have a main character with a strong voice and a direction for a novel.

If you're thinking of writing a novel you need to take this course so you don't waste time waffling about without focus.

Suzanne made everyone feel supported and her feedback always included what was effective in the writing.

I enjoyed everything - lectures, assignments, and handouts and feedback worked together. The focus on writing for YA was very helpful and specific to this audience.

A good way to develop skills and knowledge - gives you deadlines and helpful feedback.

Pamela was professional, concise, and approachable. Her feedback was very valuable. She found areas for improvement and those that were working well in my submissions. I also gained great insights by listening to the feedback on the other course participants' submissions.

The course has consolidated the basics of writing good fiction for me. It has also potentially changed my focus from continuing with a novel I had already started and am 10,000 words into, to starting a new project based on a 500-word scene written at the end of the course.

It is an easily accessible way to learn about writing in a friendly environment.

I wanted to get a solid start on my novel, hoping it would steer the rest of it in the right direction.

At first, I was nervous about presenting large pieces of my writing to others for open critique, but everyone is all in the same boat and just wants to work together to improve their writing.

I really appreciated Cathie's wealth of knowledge and her specific feedback. It's great to work with someone with such experience and know-how in the industry.

The course has helped me to refine the synopsis, and target areas of writing such as deep point of view. It has helped me to keep writing and work on the story plan. I am motivated to continue and finish.

Well organised. Excellent pacing. Information and feedback was detailed and relevant. I especially appreciate that students have access to the course for 12 months because I certainly couldn't absorb everything in 5 weeks.

The tutor was knowledgeable and perceptive, picked up on details I would not have considered and suggested useful ways to think about them, and improve my writing.

I actually began writing the story I have wanted to for a long time! I already had the main characters and setting in mind, based on stories from my family history. But I was limiting my thinking too much because I already know those characters well. The course seems to have given me permission to 'depart' from what I know and be more imaginative in how I develop those characters.

No matter how long you've been writing, or how much you think you know about writing, you'll learn something new and be a better writer for this course!

Just a thank you to all involved.

Melissa Morris 1 year ago

Vivienne was lovely and helpful with the feedback she gave. Most of the time, even if it wasn't 100% positive, it was 100% accurate and what I needed to hear. It was great having someone with experience in the industry giving pointers and offering suggestions I would not have thought about.

It has opened my eyes to the world of freelance and encouraged me that it is possible to make the career change.

AWC courses are well presented and have a wealth of knowledge, even for people who are not wanting to pursue it as a career.

One of my favourite things to do in the world is reading and writing. I have loved books for a long time and love creating my own world. I have needed some help though and this seemed like the perfect course for it.

I had no hesitations. I believed that it would be perfect and it has been!

My tutor was very good, providing helpful feedback, both negative and positive, and it was very helpful. Thank you for the excellent help.

I enjoyed the part where I got to work on my story, like making my characters, their feelings, appearances, and the world around them.

It has helped me start a story for the first time which I am confident with. I always struggled with starting stories.

I would say that it is a very good course that can help your writing skills improve and can give you personal feedback that is unbiased, because it is not from family or friends.

It was perfect. Thank you.

I've been receiving AWC newsletters for a while now. I wanted to do this course as a chance to develop and get some feedback on my creative writing and to start to build a network of writers as well.

Finding the time to do it justice was the biggest concern - but the biggest hesitation was just finding the confidence to share my writing. So glad I did though!

Pamela was fantastic - so knowledgeable about the craft of writing but also just in general with the feedback given to the class. I loved her focus on the positive aspects of the assignments and the constructive advice given for improvement.

I loved completing the assignments and receiving feedback on them. It was enjoyable to play with the different scenarios and POVs and come away with some ideas to build into longer stories.

It's given me the confidence to go away and write some more and showed me that I can find the time to do it too!

The AWC provides a really supportive environment for aspiring writers. Creative Writing Stage 1 is a great starting point and really helps break down how writing works. Receiving feedback on course assignments is so valuable - I'd highly recommend AWC courses based on my experience.

Keep doing what you're doing. It's fantastic!
