What’s it like to learn with AWC?
Each year, thousands of students just like you achieve their writing goals through our courses and world-class presenters. Here they share how their new-found skills and confidence enriched their life.
I loved the course, and learned so much. It is a massive program that will take time and patience to master.
Natasha led the course in an easy-to-understand manner. I liked that she, as a skilled and successful author, showed us in a practical manner how she uses it. She illustrated probably most of the basic 'getting started' tools that are most often used and useful, and I'm almost at the stage of making the decision to plunge into being a Scrivener user. (Wish it could also help me write as well as Natasha!)
I got more than I expected from this course, and am confident it will complement the Content Writing course that I've also enrolled in. Contributions from the other students were also interesting and helpful.
The tutor was outstanding. 2 x 2 hour straight sessions in lecture or tutorial is, in my experience, not something to look forward to. But David made the time fly. I enjoyed his knowledge, experience, honest feedback and bedside manner.
Highly recommended.
Everything was covered in the course. Learnt the art of copywriting in just five weeks!
Take this course if you are looking to gain new skills or have an additional source of income. It's worth the time and money!
Very professionally and well-thought-out course materials. I love listening to Valerie's tutorials. What a wonderful speaker she is!
I was very impressed with Petronella and her attention to detail and her lovely energy. The feedback was valuable and I think will help a lot moving forward.
I enjoyed the writing exercises. I loved the interaction and reading the others work as well. A highlight, sitting in my office listening to the tutorials.
I am more intent on writing a novel than I was. My passion and confidence have been ignited.
Fantastic opportunity to learn the foundations of picture book writing from an expert. The Convent in Abbotsford was perfect.
Judith Rossell is a natural teacher. The group worked well together under her guidance. We shared out writing exercises and the feedback was incredibly constructive. It made me think about my stories in different ways. I learnt how to develop the story from different POVs and how to analyse and cut/tighten up my work. I would highly recommend enrolling in this course with Judith.
I now feel confident that I have the skills to put my work out there.
Don't hesitate to sign up. If you want to take your writing further, in a supportive learning environment, these courses are invaluable.
This course was exceptional! I had a couple of questions I was having trouble finding answers to in other plotting and planning texts and Kate answered them all. Whilst I love being creative and thinking up stories as I walk and daydream, I also like to know I am on the right track in terms of narrative tension and narrative thread. This was by far the best course on plotting, planning and structure that I've done.
I enjoyed the presentation style, the humour (the author's diagram - hilarious!) the explanation of the different planning styles and journeys. The easy breakdown of different sections of your plan in a step-by-step way is really thoughtful and shows Kate's years of experience and knowledge. The ART, oh my goodness! It's an entire framework that you can choose to hang your words on or take snippets of what you need. I am very grateful that I stumbled upon it in my inbox. Completed it in two sittings and will watch it all again without doubt. Such exceptional value!
Please do yourself a favour and do an AWC course - actually do several. They are really fun, exceptional value for money and you learn something new from each one!
David Leser was great. Very generous with his information and his experiences.
If you're thinking of starting your writing journey, AWC is a great place to start given the breadth and depth of courses and the sense of community it tries to create. And if you're serious about your writing, having Valerie as a coach is a fantastic investment.
Pamela's brilliant!
I've been inspired and so encouraged by the feedback I've received. Especially when the feedback pointed out flaws or weak spots.
You just can't go wrong with an AWC course. They want you to succeed, and go out of their way to ensure you do.
Thank you!
Jude was great; she created a safe and encouraging environment. She has a huge amount of knowledge of the book world. Jude was very encouraging to everyone and gave appropriate and helpful advice without judgement.
The group was fantastic and as a complete beginner I found the shared knowledge and input from the group to be very valuable.
It has given me the knowledge and confidence to create a book from an idea, and with some further work I now have the knowledge to submit to publishers.
The course is very worthwhile and good value for money.
I thought the feedback was kind and constructive. I learned a lot from it. The handouts and voice recordings were very helpful. I have a feeling I will need to refer to them for a few weeks before I decide to move on to a new course.
I would say that AWC provides courses for every level of student, and that the notes and practical advice will come in handy in your preparations for future courses.
It is very thorough and takes you through step-by-step all the processes you will need to do to create your own website, and it answers all the questions for those of us who aren't that tech savvy. I can go back through my website now and start improving it.
While some of the content I already knew, there was a lot of content that I wish I had known when I created my website a few years ago. It would have saved me a lot of time and angst!
The section on SEO, sizing and sourcing of images, up-to-date info on domain extensions for Australian authors, and some of the more technical aspects of building your own website. Excellent course.
The AWC has great courses with experienced presenters and value for money. I also like that you have access to the course for a year!
I've studied plenty of structure things before, so I was concerned I would be treading on the same ground. But I found it really helpful, breaking things down in a much more practical way than other resources.
It's absolutely worth doing, and it helps break down a sometimes mystifying process into something that feels like it can actually be achieved.
The course offered actionable steps and strategies. I feel confident that I am able to implement the strategies. It will serve as my roadmap, helping me understand the essential tools, and techniques that will help increase my visibility online.
If you're serious about elevating your online presence and genuinely connecting with your audience, I can't recommend this course enough.
This course is very methodical and very comprehensive. Very easy to do online. I am pleased I finally made the leap to follow my dream.
Cathie was very supportive and encouraging. There is a lot to learn, but Cathie gave some good tips. I would like to meet her personally. One day, perhaps!
I enjoyed the challenge of self-discipline - doing the course each week helped with gaining momentum. Now that I have finished I want to invest more in my writing and in more courses.
More, More, More! I want to learn and do more. Thank you AWC! Your emails just keep coming and I knew one day, I would jump in! I am so glad I did. You make it seem easy, but you don't sugar coat it. I have a lot of work to do, but I know you are there for encouragement, support and ongoing learning opportunities.
I absolutely recommend AWC. You have a wide range of courses that suit so many. So accessible and flexible.
The tutor was very knowledgeable and generous with his time providing feedback in video form. I enjoyed the assignments and feeling satisfied with my entries on tight word/character counts.
The AWC provides a structured but low stress and low contact option for short writing courses, with some tips for the real world.
Michelle provided fabulous content in an easy-to-understand way. I now feel confident about creating my own author website, and I'll return to the notes I made about the course to help me.
The technical stuff around SEO was really interesting as most of us without websites have no idea about the backend of everything.
You'll learn so much - just do it!
Bernadette was inspiring and encouraging. Mark Farrelly was clear and concise in providing weekly assignment feedback.
The course was clear and professional. Modules presented the what and how of copywriting in an easily digestible format. The steps to writing headlines, the reasons for word choice and for writing short sentences were useful. Knowing why people buy and being shown a formula to ensure the right elements make their way into your copy was most valuable.
It's affirmed for me that copywriting is a real option for life purpose and income source. It's creative and it's strategic, which plays well to both my personality and structured thinking style. I now see copywriting as a real option in my personal reinvention and I'm keen to explore this further.
The modules were fantastic and so were the assignments. I really appreciated Pamela's constructive feedback. Lots of great advice that I will carry forward with me in my writing.
The course has provided me with more motivation to just get writing. Doesn't need to be perfect, just get the ideas down and keep going. Then go back and refine and edit.
The AWC is a great centre; you'll definitely learn something and won't regret the decision to invest in your writing.
I was most impressed with the course and feedback. I enjoyed how the modules built on each other, linking to new material.
I have given myself the challenge to write daily and in a couple of months enrol in the picture book masterclass.
Just do it, you won't be disappointed.
The Teenage Creative Writers' Program taught me everything I was curious about in creative writing, including common tricks authors use to make their stories interesting and satisfying to read. The course has made me so much more confident in any creative writing I do and now I feel fully equipped to reach my goal of writing a young adult fiction book.
The feedback that my tutor provided was specific and helpful, because she also gave me a specific way that I could apply it within the pieces of writing that I submitted in my assignments. She also made all of the modules interesting and engaging, presenting the information in ways I could relate to and that I understood.
I loved getting to explore a range of stories and characters throughout all the modules and exercises. I also liked how throughout a lot of the exercises we could take creative freedom with the characters, setting etc. to write about what we knew and what we found interesting instead of being given a rigid set of guidelines to follow. In assignments, I also liked how we could get feedback without worrying about marking well. I loved everything about the course!
I feel confident that I could actually pursue becoming an author, when before I felt like it wouldn't be possible. It also made me feel confident in being able to learn any new skill and feel way more confident with it in a fairly short amount of time.
I really enjoyed the course and hope I can take another one with AWC soon! :)
