FOCUS ON...The Climax and Resolution

How to leave your reader both satisfied and wanting MORE

There’s a common saying in the publishing industry: “your opening sells your first book, but it’s your ending that sells your second”. Wise words indeed, but HOW does it look in practice?

Nailing the climax of your story is all about running through that finishing line under full steam, instead of limping across. But how do you pace your story to deliver this kind of conclusion? What steps do you need to take to succeed? And how do you wrap everything up in a way that your reader will love?

Providing a satisfying resolution for your novel can be difficult, no matter how experienced you are. But do it right and it will have a positive effect on your next book, perhaps before you’ve even started writing it!

“Pamela is a great presenter! I can SEE the climax in my story now. As soon as Pamela explained a couple of key points, I could see why I had been struggling and the way to fix it. That was totally worth an hour and a half of my time!”

Cross the finish line in style

The recency effect plays a large part in how we judge things. We tend to recall the last things we saw, read or did in a given experience – so if those last things are amazing, you feel better about the whole. As an author, you could do everything right for the first three quarters of your book – but if your novel fizzles out at the end, you’re in trouble. And that’s why it’s so important to not only set up a strong climax for your story, but deliver it too.

In this fascinating FOCUS ON seminar, Pamela Freeman will share how to end your story in a way that will leave your reader satisfied with the resolution AND wanting more. Together, you’ll explore the following:

  • What is a climax? What’s a denouement? What’s a resolution?
  • You may think you know, but DO you?
  • How to set up your story and characters so the climax satisfies your reader.
  • What elements do you need in your story’s climax?
  • How to avoid the never-ending-ending.
  • Creating the perfect resolution – leaving them satisfied and wanting more.
  • And MUCH more.

“What I thought was the climax and resolution of my story has completely changed. I'm confident in the story itself as being one people will find interesting – but the seminar has really encouraged me to reassess the message I thought I was giving. It's given a good story greater depth. If you have a chance to take part in a seminar with Pamela, you absolutely must.”
