What’s it like to learn with AWC?

The course was thorough and covered a lot more than I had anticipated (even though I'd read the course outline, there was so much more). Michelle is a fantastic tutor. The topic is huge and dynamic, and she was able to provide lots of clear and practical 'how to' advice, terrific website examples and ideas to think about when personalising our own sites.

I basically binged the whole course over a few days, as I wanted to get an overall picture of the content. I'm glad I did as now I can work through the modules that are more relevant to me in my own time.

The very first thing I have done (literally, within half an hour of completing the final module) was go back over the content about domain names, took Michelle's advice of 'run don't walk' - and have secured my domain name! Her enthusiasm and encouraging 'can-do' approach made what I'd thought was going to be a 'hard thing to do' not hard at all.

Michelle touched on a lot of important topics, and I now feel I have a better understanding of what I need to be thinking about in terms of what is important to me, and what my actual goals are. Module 1 really set the scene for the whole course. Plus, as she reinforced, I want to focus on my writing, so I'm happy for the expert web designers to do the website work, but now I have the confidence to be an active voice in my brand and know what to 'ask for' - and not just 'looking in' and hoping they're presenting me as me, if that makes sense.

The AWC is an all-welcoming, warm and supportive organisation for writers at all stages of their career. They offer a variety of resources that offer practical advice and encouragement in the craft of writing and storytelling. And the monthly Furious Fiction is always a blast of a challenge!

Writing stories for publication is one thing, the other is how to make it known in an efficient medium through social media.

Highly recommended for anyone who's writing to get published and ideas on how to go about constructing an author website. Absolutely jam-packed with information and pathways to make it happen!

It is very thorough and takes you through step-by-step all the processes you will need to do to create your own website, and it answers all the questions for those of us who aren't that tech savvy. I can go back through my website now and start improving it.

While some of the content I already knew, there was a lot of content that I wish I had known when I created my website a few years ago. It would have saved me a lot of time and angst!

The section on SEO, sizing and sourcing of images, up-to-date info on domain extensions for Australian authors, and some of the more technical aspects of building your own website. Excellent course.

The technical stuff around SEO was really interesting as most of us without websites have no idea about the backend of everything.

What a fantastically presented course! Michelle goes through each step of the process in a really easy to understand manner, and shows you some great examples of author websites (along with suggestions for improvement so you can make yours even better). If you're not comfortable with technology this course covers exactly how to get help in what areas (e.g., website build, design) along with the questions to ask to make sure you get value for money. If you are tech-y then this course also covers how to use a website builder to do it yourself. It really covers all bases and has made me feel excited to jump in and create a website for myself!

Presenter Michelle is clearly knowledgeable in her topic and lays it out without ambiguity. She does not speak down to her listeners, but talks to them in a friendly way as if she is advising a colleague or a friend.

I'm now keen to plan my new website. It will take a little thought so it won't be up overnight but it's simmering in my subconscious.

Give the AWC a go! Definitely worth your time and investment.
