According to the press release, “The PRH Literary Prize, launched in 2017, was established to find, nurture and develop new Australian authors of literary fiction.” 

Previous winners of the prize include Imbi Neeme’s The Spill. You can hear her interview on episode 335 of the So you want to be a writer podcast.

According to the press release, Neeme said: “It was a huge privilege to have my manuscript selected as the winner of the Penguin Literary Prize and then transformed into a book, thanks to the care, attention and passion of the team at Penguin Random House.”

Other past winners include Hitch by Kathryn Hind and The Rabbits by Sophie Overett.

Things you need to know about entering the Penguin Random House Literary Prize

To submit, you’ll need:

  • to be an Australian resident aged 18 or above
  • a synopsis and a pitch
  • and a complete, unpublished manuscript.

Submissions close 15 December 2020. 

They will release the shortlist on 12 March 2021, and the winner will be announced on 17 June 2021.
