Best Australian Blog 2012 overall winner

Selecting the winners for the Best Australian Blogs Competition 2012 was a very difficult task for the judging panel and the team at the Sydney Writers' Centre in Milsons Point. There were hundreds of blogs that deserved to be finalists, and many that could have won. The challenge is comparing blogs that have very different styles, voices, content and goals. Ultimately the winners were selected based on how well they were achieving the voice and goals they were aiming for.

The overall winner of the 2012 competition is Eden Riley for her blog Edenland. Eden was the winner of the Personal/Lifestyle category which had 526 entries.

Eden's blog was a stand-out because of her moving writing, fearless honesty and her ability to forge and sustain connections with her readers. Eden's blog shares insights and experiences in a way that only a blog can. We're thrilled to announce a winner who is pushing the boundaries of blogging and writing in Australia.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Australia's Best Blogs 2012 Competition Terms and Conditions

• This competition is open to all people living in Australia, or Australian citizens living abroad.
• The competition launches on the Thursday 15 March 2012, and entries close at 5pm Friday 13 April 2012. The finalists will be announced Thursday 26 April 2012. The winning blogs will be announced on Thursday 10 May 2012.
• Previous winners of the 2011 categories may not enter the same blog in the 2012 competition. Previous finalists can enter.
• It is a condition of entry that these terms and conditions are accepted as final, and that the competitor agrees to abide by and respect these rules.
• Submission of entry will be taken to mean acceptance of these terms and conditions.
• Blogs must be viewed as legitimate entries by the Sydney Writers' Centre.
• The Sydney Writers' Centre reserves the right to reassign your blog to a different category of the competition if it decides it is more suited to another category. If you are assigned to a new category, you will be emailed about this change.
• A blog may be deemed inappropriate and not eligible to enter due to a low level of posts or inappropriate content.
• Entrants who do not specify which category they are submitting their work into will be classified by the Sydney Writers' Centre.
• Incomplete forms or entries with broken links will not be accepted.
• Entries into the special awards outside of the specified date range will not be accepted.
• Your blog will be assessed on the following criteria: 70% writing, 20% appearance and 10% engagement.
• The category judges are not involved in the selection of finalists. Finalists are selected by the Sydney Writers’ Centre.
• The judging panel of the overall winner comprises judges of each category and a representative of the Sydney Writers’ Centre.
• The decision made by the judges is final, and there will be no revision of this decision. The judges will not enter into discussion around why a blog didn't qualify as a finalist, or win.
• The recipient of the special award for “Outstanding Young Blogger” will need to email the team at the Sydney Writers’ Centre a scanned copy of a proof of age card or license.
• You may enter a blog that is authored by a group. We will factor this into our scoring of your blog, recognising your increased capacity for producing original content.
• If your blog is designed to share images or existing content from other sources your writing score will be based on your introduction and explanations.
• Copyright in all submissions to the competition remains with the respective entrants. However, entering the competition allows the Sydney Writers’ Centre Pty Ltd the right to feature any or all of the submissions in any of its publications, its websites and/or in any promotional material connected to this competition.
• The prize voucher is allocated per blog. Prize winners will receive the value stated in these terms and conditions, regardless of the number of bloggers contributing to your blog. It is up to you to share the prize as your team decides.
• Finalists receive a prize voucher to the value of $400 worth of courses at the Sydney Writers’ Centre.
• Category winners will receive a voucher for $1000 worth of courses at the Sydney Writers’ Centre. If you are a category winner, you do not ALSO receive the $400 voucher for being a finalist.
• The overall winner will receive a voucher of $1500 worth of courses, and special mention as the 2012 winner. The overall winner does not ALSO receive the category-winning prize of a $1000 voucher.
• Special award winners receive a prize voucher to the value of $400 worth of courses at the Sydney Writers’ Centre.
• Prize vouchers are valid for approximately 12 months. The vouchers will expire on 31 June 2013. This can be extended by up to 24 months, provided you call to extend the voucher before it lapses.
• The prize vouchers are not transferable for cash.
• The prize vouchers may be used for face-to-face and online courses only. They cannot be used for manuscript assessments, mentoring or overseas programs.
• The prize vouchers can be redeemed in separate smaller transactions. They must be redeemed in minimum amounts of $85 and above.
• Presenters, employees or contractors employed or engaged by the Sydney Writers' Centre are not eligible for entry.
